I wanted to start off my Church Social Media A-Z series on the right foot, so here is a two-for-one special on the letter A. That’s right – you get two different uses of social media for church advertising for the price of, well, free, but you get the idea!
Get the Word Out
The first use is using social media to advertise your church, and by that I mean getting the word out about your church generally. It’s possible that someone who drives by your church every day on their way to school or work actually knows nothing about what really goes on there.
Social media tools like Facebook, Twitter, and Blogging are great for providing a digital (and visual, if you include photos and videos!) introduction to your church that people in your community, or those half-way across the world, might not get in any other way. And the best part is that it’s free!
Promote, Promote, Promote!
The second type of advertising your church can utilize with social media is to promote specific events or aspects of your church. Have a church social coming up that you want to invite everyone in your community to, not just regular attenders? Post it on your Facebook page and tweet it – you’ll be surprised who might show up based on just that type of advertising!
You can also use social media to advertise a specific aspect of your church. Let’s say you have a new pastor, or the youth just went on a great mission trip and you want to share it with the world. Use your various social media platforms to announce, highlight, introduce, congratulate, and otherwise promote the great things happening at your church!
